Ballistic Groove Gun. Firing in 3... 2... 1...
~ Purge, Space Channel 5: Part 2.

The Ballistic Groove Gun is a fearsome weapon created by Purge in Space Channel 5: Part 2 made of stolen antennas from several TV stations. Located at Point Double X, it’s designed to make people forcibly dance on the pilot of the Purge TV Show. Once fired, all of the Galaxy dances for Purge.

About[]

The Ballistic Groove Gun can is a weapon which Purge pretends to use to make the whole Galaxy dance for him. The weapon is powered up by dance energy and singing. When Ulala and her team arrive to stop Purge, the people who were kidnapped by Purge and are being forced to dance start powering the weapon up.

The Ballistic Groove Gun has a second form revealed at the end of the game, which despite being smaller and weaker, is still strong enough to force all of the people at the Space Arena to dance, only with Purge's dance energy.

Appearance[]

The Ballistic Groove Gun is made of 7 antennas. The big black-colored antenna at the center is Purge's antenna. At the beginning of the game, this is the only antenna in the weapon. The other 6 antennas are stolen from various TV stations. Purge stole all of them (but Channel 5's) during the time gap between Report 3 and Report 4 of Space Channel 5: Part 2. At the end of Report 4, Channel 5's antenna is stolen off-screen.

The black and white antenna on the right is from the Underground Pirate Broadcasting System, the green antenna at the bottom left is from Channel 42, the purple and yellow one at the top right is from Moro-Channel 5, the blue and yellow one at the bottom right with the number 1 on it is from Channel 1, the pink and peach one at the top left, shaped after the number 88 is from Channel 88, and finally, the blue, white and yellow antenna at the center of the weapon is from Channel 5.

As stated above, at the end of the game, it is revealed that the Ballistic Groove Gun has a second form; a small pink-colored satellite with Purge's logo, four black and pink antennas resembling a thunder around it and one gray and pink antenna at its center.

Abilities[]

Ballistic Groove Gun shooting

The Ballistic Groove Gun releasing its blast.

The Ballistic Groove Gun is capable of making the entire Galaxy dance. Much like the Astrobeat and the Astrobeat Jr., the Ballistic Groove is powered by dance energy. However, unlike the mentioned vehicles, the Ballistic Groove Gun takes much longer to be charged. Purge had to kidnap 365,968 people and force them to dance in order to charge the weapon up.

The Ballistic Groove Gun's second form is strong enough to be able of releasing a powerful blast capable of forcing 86,429 people to dance, only with Purge's dance energy. However, this is no match to a blast released by the Astrobeat, which was powered up by said 86,429 people.

History[]

Space Channel 5: Part 2[]

Point Double X (JP)

The Ballistic Groove Gun at the beginning of the game.

The Ballistic Groove Gun first appears at the game's opening cutscene, when Jaguar goes to the Point Double X to investigate the mysterious location. During the opening cutscene, the Ballistic Groove Gun only has one antenna.

In the cutscene prior the Report 4, Hoorg informs that several TV Station's antennas are being stolen, including Channel 42's, Channel 1's and Channel 88's. Shortly after, Moro-Channel 5's antenna is also stolen. Later at the end of the Report 4, Purge steals the Channel 5's antenna and finally completes the Ballistic Groove Gun.

Report 5: The Spies Get Revenge!

The Ballistic Groove Gun is first mentioned by Jaguar, once the latter is saved by the heroes at the end of the Report 5. Jaguar reveals that Purge stole the TV antennas to create the weapon and that if they don't hurry, the whole Milky Way will be in danger.

Report 6: Purge's T.V. Special

The Ballistic Groove Gun finally appears again at the end of the Report 6, now with 6 more antennas, which were stolen from TV stations.

Purge Report - The whole of Morodia dances for me

Purge revealing that he tested the weapon on Planet Morodia.

In the cutscene prior Report 6, a message appears revealing that Purge tested the Ballistic Groove Gun on the Planet Morodia and now, the entire planet is dancing for him.

The dance energy of the audience is charging the Ballistic Groove Gun

Report revealing that the audience is charging up the Ballistic Groove Gun.

When Ulala and the other heroes arrive to stop Purge, the Ballistic Groove Gun, being powered with the Dance Energy from the people Purge kidnapped, starts charging. Purge also starts singing and dance with the purpose of powering the weapon up. Because the Ballistic Groove Gun is powered by singing and dance, the heroes avoid dancing, and they say straight to the point lines such as "This is the end of the line", "I'll end this", "Not gonna happen" and "Stop right there moro-moro".

Once the heroes reach Purge, they are stopped by an invisible wall which only Ulala manages to pass though. Purge removes his cloak to reveal his Dancing outfit and challenges Ulala to a dance battle. After a while, he interrupts the battle and opens the Dance Dimension X as well as creates Purge the Great, while revealing to Ulala that he needed her dance energy and now he has all of the power he needed.

The Ballistic Groove guns charge is complete

Report revealing that the Ballistic Groove Gun is ready.

Purge the Great shoots strong electrical orbs at Ulala who avoids them for a while, but eventually, Purge sends nine orbs filled with a strong electrical current at Ulala and presumably kills her. Once Purge the Great defeats Ulala, the Ballistic Groove Gun's charge is finally complete.

The charging of the Ballistic Groove Gun was cut short

Report revealing the Ballistic Groove Gun's charging was cut short.

Purge is 1 second from firing the Ballistic Groove Gun, when Ulala is revived with the power of love and transforms into Super Ulala, who brings along all of her friends and rescued hostages to fight against Purge the Great. The Ballistic Groove Gun's charge is cut short during their dance battle and once Dance Dimension X is broken, Purge the Great is sucked inside the weapon. The Ballistic Groove Gun promptly transforms into one satellite aimed to shoot an enormous amount of dance energy at Ulala. But before that happens, Fuse appears piloting the Astrobeat and surprises everyone revealing that he's alive. A total of 86,429 people concentrate their dance energy at the spaceship, which fires a beam that overpowers Purge's, launching him into space. The Ballistic Groove Gun is presumably destroyed with the blast.

Trivia[]

  • Because the Ballistic Groove Gun is powered by singing and dance, Ulala, Pudding, Jaguar, Pine, Space Michael and Hoorg had to avoid dance and sing, and whenever Purge would sing, they counter saying straight to the point lines, such as "This is the end of the line!", "I'll end this!", "Not gonna happen!" and "Stop right there, moro-moro!".
  • The Space Pirates broadcasting station was the only TV station which wasn't revealed to have its antenna stolen before Report 6.
    • The Space Pirates Broadcasting station was presumebly the first TV station to have its antenna stolen, given that its leader was kidnapped at the beginning of the game and was turned into Shadow. Afterwards, the order of stolen antennas was most like Channel 42, followed by Channel 1, followed by Channel 88, followed by Moro-Channel 5 and finally, followed by Channel 5.
  • When Channel 5's antenna was stolen, the Channel 5 Headquarters was destroyed. It is unknown if all of the other TV stations had the same fate. Though they very likely didn't, at least not Moro-Channel 5's headquarters, as the Moro News studio was shown in the cutscene prior to Report 5.
